Taking a Pub-Crawl Around The Breakers Resort

Guests at The Breakers Resort on the Myrtle Beach oceanfront are quick to learn that there's no better place for a frozen drink and a cold beer than the Red Parrot Oceanfront Bar & Grill.

But some may not be aware that they are staying near one of the best stretches of bars in Myrtle Beach. From chilling on the beach to catching your favorite sports teams in action, guests at The Breakers is within walking distance of watering holes where you can quench your thirst. Here are three hot spots in the neighborhood you should hit on your pub crawl:

* Bummz Beach Cafe: There's a party going on just a couple of doors down the beach and you and everyone else are invited. Based in old beach house that somehow survived the onslaught of high-rises that surround it, Bummz offers great food and even better drinks both inside and outside on the huge patio deck. Live music is played daily as some dance and relax in the backyard while others enjoy lunch and drinks at the bar and picnic tables. The music goes quiet at night as a courtesy to the neighbors but the fun continues well after dark.

* Dirty Don's Oyster Bar: This seafood shack on 21st Avenue North feels more like a beach bar/boat dock. Offering fresh seafood and cold beer, Dirty Don's also attracts a nice local following of folks who know where to find a good time. Some live music and karaoke is held on special occasions, but this is a straight-up bar after dinner hours. Enjoy the company and the free oyster roasts for happy hour. Several TVs are tuned to all sorts of sports.

* Soho: This New York-style bistro is a bit more upscale but also well worth getting dressed up for. Dress is beach casual but the trendy crowd comes ready to pre-game and post-game before and after visiting the dance and live music clubs. The menu features Asian-fusion dishes and great sushi, but this restaurant becomes more of a bar scene for happy hour and after-hours. Be sure to try some of the more cocktail concoctions, such as flavored martinis and hot and cold saki.
