The theatre was founded in 2008 by a young group of theatre artists. It is a non-profit professional theatre. The founding members wanted a new theatre in Myrtle Beach to call home. They were working at Coastal Carolina University and decided to start Atlantic Stage Theater. Together with University Productions they are now in their sixth year of shows.
The Black Box theatre is located at 79th Avenue at the intersection of Highway 17. There are over 144 seats available and has a unique and quaint feel on a thrust stage. That means that the audience surrounds the stage on 3-sides that make every seat in house an awesome seat. If you see a production here you definitely will feel part of the show as it comes to life.
The Holiday Memories By Truman Capote are a series of short stories by adapted for the stage by Russell Vandenbroucke. This largely autobiographical story takes place in the 1930s and describes a period in the lives of the seven-year-old narrator and an elderly woman who is his distant cousin and best friend.
The evocative narrative focuses on country life, friendship, and the joy of giving during the Christmas season, and gently yet poignantly touches on loneliness and loss.
If you attend the production on Sundays, after the performance you are invited to meet and talk to the actors.
Come out and join the community as they celebrate yet another production during the holiday season.
